ICONIX Takes Part in the 2023 CAN Pro-Am Weekend in BC

Wednesday, November 15, 2023
– Earlier this month, John Henkels, VP and COO of ICONIX Waterworks US, laced up his skates for the second straight year to take the ice at the CAN Pro-Am event.

The event brings together corporate teams and NHL alumni for an unforgettable weekend of hockey in support of Canucks Autism Network (CAN). The weekend includes a draft night where teams select a former NHL player to be on their team, followed by a two-day tournament where teams go head-to-head in some friendly competition.

John shares his experience from this year’s tournament:

“Once again, this was an amazing weekend of hockey and living out a fantasy with some of my hockey heroes! There is no ego on these men that spent most of their lives dedicated to the sport, and now they have become ambassadors.

In addition to winning all three of our games, The Constructors also won the tournament by raising the most money – $191,835! Seven members of The Constructors also qualified to play in the All-Star Game on Sunday by being the top individual fundraisers. Representing the ICONIX brand, I was fortunate to carry that honor for the third straight year. Overall, the tournament collectively raised over $1,000,000!

At the luncheon on Friday, attendees heard yet another incredible story about how this organization helped a family bring their autistic child from a life of despair to one of joy and belonging and being a functional part of society.

I cannot tell you what it feels like to hear this story firsthand and speak to these individuals. It is absolutely life changing, or at least, an inspirational awakening.

A special thanks to our partners, individual donors and everyone who contributed to the CAN charity event this year. My sincere, humble thank you to all.”

About Canucks Autism Network (CAN):

Founded in 2008, Canucks Autism Network (CAN) is dedicated to providing programs to individuals on the autism spectrum and their families, while promoting acceptance and inclusion through community engagement and training initiatives across BC and beyond.
